;B[pd]C[Last week we made our 100th episode!
Today, as a new start after this milestone, we proudly present one of our new professional teachers:
MyungWan Kim 9p!

In this episode he reviews one of the games he played in 2005. It was a game from the 10th Samsung Cup. MyungWan Kim plays as white and his opponent is Wang Lei 5p.

(;B[qk]C[This Chinese opening was common at the time.
]
(;W[nc]LB[fq:B][gq:A]C[It is interesting to see that everyone approached the Chinese opening from this side at that time.

Nowadays it is more common to reduce Black's influence from the lower side by playing at A or B.
]
;B[pf]
;W[pb]
;B[qc]
;W[kc]
(;B[cj]C[A slightly unusual move.]
;W[kq]C[It gave white the opportunity to play on the lower side himself.
White extends from his corner stone and also breaks black's potential.
Now it has become impossible for black to build a moyo there.]
;B[cg]
;W[cl]C[White builds the lower left side and keeps the pressure on black's group on the left.]
;B[fq]
;W[eq]
;B[fp]
(;W[co]C[A very practical and solid move.
MyungWan Kim told us that he is not sure if this white combination is optimal, but that his gamestyle was like this in 2005: solid and simple.

]
;B[iq]
;W[nq]
;B[po]
;W[ko]LB[io:A][no:B]C[An important move to strengthen white's group.
A or B are miai. Both spots are very good.]
;B[no]C[Black took this point in the game.]
(;W[io]C[So white should take the other and play here.
This move defends white's weak group and also attacks black.

If Black would get to play here the whole White group would be floating.]
;B[kr]C[A good timing move.
Playing on the second line like this is critical when it comes to making a base.
This sliding keima returned a few times in this game, which was surprising.

White should be careful how to respond.]
(;W[jr]C[So MyungWan felt that he had to play from this side.
A fight follows!]
;B[jq]C[After black cuts white is left with 2 choices again. ]
(;W[ir]C[The other option, a must-move in this case.

When MyungWan played here, the result up to move 38 was predicted in his mind.
This white counter-attack is powerful and tricky. Black should be careful not to respond too calmly.]
(;B[kp]C[Black should fight back!]
;W[lq]
;B[lp]C[This is the game and the only way of playing for black.
]
(;W[jp]TR[ir][jr]SQ[kp][lp]C[This move gives up two White stones at the bottom but gets two Black stones in the center. ]
;B[ip]
;W[jo]
;B[lr]
;W[mq]
;B[hr]C[This was the game. It is similar to one of the variations that we just saw, but without a needless exchange.]
(;W[mo]LB[ho:D][hp:C][gr:A][mr:B]C[Up till here it was more or less a one-way street.
This result however looks a bit better for Black since he got some points at the bottom and sente.

But White can later get some endgame benefit at A. And B or C or D is also sente. So, I thought it's pretty even.]
(;B[fc]C[In the game black played here. It was a dubious move, almost certainly a mistake.]
;W[ec]
;B[fd]
;W[ce]TR[cg][cj]C[The same white shape as in left lower corner.
This time it was definitely better for White. This move protects white's corner and especially puts pressure on Black's group on the left.]
;B[eg]
(;W[bg]LB[kr:A]C[The second sliding keima on the second line!

There was reason why white attached here. Just like black's sliding move at A, white plays this keima to make a base and to protect his corner.

Where should black play now?]
(;B[bh]C[In the game Black chose the safe response.]
;W[bf]LB[dh:A]C[Just like we saw at the lower side, this sliding keima leaves big peeping aji at A.]
;B[ic]C[Black defends the top. And also puts some pressure on the white group, we will see a severe attack on the 3 white stones later.]
;W[qm]LB[jr:A]C[This invasion is what MyungWang was already aiming at when he played the severe hane at A.
It is difficult to kill this invasion.]
(;B[ok]C[So black decided on a different strategy and played here in the game.
This move is saying: 'I will let you live in the corner but I will take the outside'.]
;W[qp]
;B[qo]
;W[qq]
;B[oq]
(;W[qr]C[This was a mistake.]
;B[ln]C[White didn't expect this peep!]
(;W[mn]C[So white gets creative and shows his fighting spirit.]
(;B[nr]C[A very good move. Black's reading was deep. With this hane black was aiming at a lack of liberties for white.]
(;W[lo]C[So white was forced to defend here.]
;B[rp]LB[nr:A]C[Because Black got to play A in sente, black can now kill the lower right corner.]
;W[hp]C[This atari is a necesary exchange. It helps for later.]
;B[hq]
;W[mr]
;B[is]
;W[ls]
;B[js]
;W[fr]
;B[gr]LB[er:A]TR[hp][hq]C[After White connects at A, we can see that the triangle exchange helps for White.]
(;W[on]
;B[oo]
;W[nn]LB[fc:A][bh:B]C[Eventhough black killed the lower right corner, white still feels good.

MyungWan Kim: I think the reason why Black got a bit behind, eventhough White made a little mistake, is that Black played too softly in the upper left.
A and B are to be blamed.]
;B[lb]LB[le:A][ne:B]C[A very sharp move.
This move is almost a must since Black was a bit behind and needs to force something.

It ensured that black got sente thickness around A and B.]
;W[kb]
;B[oc]C[Black prepared this move. ]

;W[nb]

;W[mb]C[Black got thickness in sente. ]
(;B[kd]C[Mistake. This move is not that meaningful.
Black should play in the centre first, the most important part of the board.]
;W[mj]C[Since White could reduce the center first and at the same time make some territory in the centre, White was better. White is winning the game now.]
;B[nj]
;W[mk]
;B[mi]
;W[li]
(;B[ii]C[Your enemy's keypoint is yours!]
;W[pc]
;B[od]
;W[rk]LB[ni:A]C[The last keima on the second line of the game!
In Dutch there is a saying: "drie maal is scheepsrecht". Three times is shippers-right!
It means that 3 times is amazing.

This attachement is a sharp move, aiming at Black's cut-weakness at A.]
(;B[rj]C[A forced move, showing the subtle power behind white's keima.]
;W[rl]
;B[qi]C[White reduced some territory in sente.]
;W[er]LB[hp:A][hq:B]C[Now we can see the effect of the exchange of white A for black B.]

It is interesting in this game that all the attachments at the second line were good moves: G, D and H.
